Counselling Supervision & Consultancy

"A working alliance between a supervisor and a counsellor in which the counsellor can offer an account or recording of her work; reflect on it; receive feedback, and where appropriate guidance. The object of this alliance is to enable the counsellor to gain in ethical competence, confidence, compassion and creativity so as to give her best possible service to her clients." Inskipp and Proctor,
Making the Most of Supervision, Part One

My theoretical understanding and practice of supervision is informed by Inskipp and Proctor's model of the Normative, Formative and Restorative functions and tasks of supervision. Additionally I draw on Hawkins and Shohet's Eight Eyed Supervisor model.

Mutual review and feedback is key to develop and evaluate how the supervisory relationship is working. My usual practice is to contract to work for six sessions, then assess work to date and what may need to be addressed differently.

I abide by the BACP's ethical framework regarding supervison.

Experience and Qualifications

This has included working with trainees who have not yet seen clients to those at an accredited level of practice. I have worked practitioners from a range of approaches including CBT, person-centred and psychodynamic. Among my supervisees have been students or graduates from City University, Kingston College, the Mary Ward Centre and Roehampton University. In 2007, I qualified as a supervisor with a Diploma in Individual and Group Supervision from CASCADE TRAINING ASSOCIATES, www.counsellingsupervisiontraining.co.uk.

For two years I supervised groups at The West London Centre for Counselling, which offers free counselling of twelve sessions. I provided group supervision at Kingston Bereavement Service, which give twelve sessions for fee paying clients.

Since 2008, I have supervised groups for two agencies, offering medium to long-term counselling. My supervision practice includes a Student Welfare team at a Surrey College. I have taught on a London CPCAB introductory course and delivered workshops on creative interventions for trainee and qualified counsellors.

In private practice, I have worked with practitioners working in GPs' practices, as well as those in private practice, and as an external supervisor whilst supervisees are studying.
